Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
