Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the US has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
