Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
