The City of Angels witnessed citywide festivities after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-match World Series title. Fans across the globe united with local residents in celebration, marking the first time in 25 years that a franchise has secured consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Massive Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Online footage depict countless of Angelenos packing city center avenues, many carrying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the masses, raising the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the team emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube driving a light blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities started prior to the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” he said. “I love the Dodgers. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, the team owner was met with a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the event seem to depict Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with negative shouts interrupting his address.
The World Series served as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, fans this year demonstrated equal or greater support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
