Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
