Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
