Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are demanding that a person who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account features clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film version of the popular stage musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, securing two for outstanding attire and production design.
