Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against the Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
