US Military Struck a 'Big Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Asserted Without Offering Details.

Former President Donald Trump has claimed that US military assets targeted a "large facility" in the South American country last week. But, the former president withheld information about the precise purpose or site of the target, and officials have issued no additional clarification from his team.

Vague Remarks Made During a Radio Show

"US forces just destroyed – I'm not sure if you read – they have a major complex, where the ships come from. The other night, we took it out. So we targeted them with significant force," Trump allegedly told Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Potential Significance of a Confirmed Attack

Should a US strike were to be confirmed, it would mark the first land strike since the Pentagon began a buildup of US strike forces in the Caribbean region to disrupt drug traffickers that the former administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

This initial purpose of the force deployment has evolved into a blockade aimed at hindering the country's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks warned that American military units are poised to widen the operations by attacking targets within Venezuela, a tactic that would theoretically require congressional authorization.

Video footage circulated online on 24 December appeared to show an blast said to be from an industrial area in Zulia state. However, the footage or the site in question has not been corroborated.

An administration official allegedly informed a media outlet that the president was describing a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Strategic Posture

The Venezuelan government has remained silent on the incident the former president referenced. Additionally, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela about it.

The buildup of American forces in the area – a position some have referred to as a maritime "quarantine" – marks the most expansive maritime enforcement action of the Trump era.

Sources have stopped short from calling the action as a blockade, but have stated that around 15,000 service members are deployed across the Caribbean and the Gulf, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to uphold existing sanctions.
