Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
An important political figure stated the attack left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
